Activate Project Activate Bristol is a health
and physical education program aimed at activating, motivating and
educating youth and their parents on practical ways to fight the growing
epidemic levels of Type 2 diabetes and obesity in our community.

GROUP Children who are identified as high
risk candidates for potentially developing Type 2 diabetes will have an
opportunity to enter a support program at the YMCA. Each will be provided
with: ·
Up to a one year YMCA family membership ·
Educational classes on nutrition and meal planning, diabetes
seminars, and blood sugar monitoring provided by ·
ActiPed—Personal activity monitor ·
Fitness classes and personal training will be provided for each
child. ·
Y’s Way to Weight Management ·
Personal Health Screening Wellness In YMCA and partner staff will be part of
every school to support programs for youth & families to learn &
participate in all kinds of active play (i.e.) kickball, dodge ball, tag
etc. Health Screenings will be conducted to catch small problems before
they become big problems. Educational topics will include nutrition
and exercise. The purpose of the program is to encourage children
and families to eat well, to get outside to play, and be active.
Other activities will include the formation of clubs and to support,
encourage, and educate families and children to be more active together.
