Y Facts

The YMCA Wellness Center is now in its third year with a new contract extension for an additional four years of operation.

The YMCA Activate Bristol project continues to receive regional and state recognition. An additional round of funding of $206,000 was awarded.

Through the support of local and state grants, gifts to the Y, and United Way, we were able to provide over $435,000 in community benefits in 2010.

The Y awarded $109,745 in financial assistance to 1,245 people in Y programs and services.

The 2010 Christmas Angel Tree Program served 32 under privileged youth.

Over 2,400 second graders, from Bristol Tennessee City Schools, have benefited from the YMCA Learn-to-Swim Program over the last 8 years.

Sixty-four special needs children participate weekly in the YMCA Adaptive Aquatics program.

Over 4,400 land and water exercise classes were taught in 2010.

In 2010, we reintroduced a competitive swim program for both youth and adults.

The 4th annual Corporate Challenge had 368 participants who lost over 1,170 pounds and recorded over 13,950 workouts.

Nearly 1,200 youth from organizations, such as Young Life, Girls Incorporated, PTA events and Scouts utilized the Y in 2010.

The 8th annual YMCA Healthy Kids Day served over 1,500 youth and their families.

The Y collaborated with United Way, Bristol Tennessee City Parks, Home Depot, Irwin Tools and many others to bring together over 250 volunteers and build a new playground in Anderson Park.

5,985 people are currently members of the YMCA of Bristol.

In 2010, 8% of our members received financial assistance.

One out of every four members is under the age of 18.

958 of our members are over the age of 55.

49% of our members are male and 51% are female.

9,092 individuals were members of the Y at some time in 2010.

Y Members scanned their cards 248,021 times in 2010. In all, well over 350,000 visits were made at the Bristol Family YMCA, YMCA Wellness Center and YMCA Outdoor Center last year.
