Bristol Family YMCA is on the Move as a part of:
YMCA Activate America
- Research
shows that making two small daily changes – taking
2,000 more steps (the equivalent of about one mile) and
eating only 100 fewer calories – can prevent the average
annual weight gain of one to two pounds.
- One way to achieve the additional
2,000 steps per day is by incorporating physical activity
into daily routines. We
want to ensure that children and families in our community
can walk or bike where they live, work, learn and play.

Project
Activate Bristol is a health and physical education program
aimed at activating, motivating and educating youth and their
parents on practical ways to fight the growing epidemic levels
of Type 2 diabetes and obesity in our community.
Children
who are identified as high risk candidates for potentially
developing Type 2 diabetes will have an opportunity to enter
a support program at the YMCA. Each participant will have
up to a 1-year family membership to the YMCA along with fitness
classes and personal training for each child. Acti-Peds will
be distributed to participants to help track personal physical
activity. Educational
classes on nutrition and meal planning, diabetes seminars,
and blood sugar monitoring will be provided by Wellmont Diabetes
Treatment Center.

Innovative—Creative
–Fabulous—Interactive
That’s what we are hearing about the Kid’s
Gym. It puts the fun back into fitness.
Fitness is Child’s Play with Sportwall. Sportwall is a multi-sensory
entertainment activity wall that makes exercise into an interactive
adventure. With so many ways to play
you have to stop by to see Sportwall in action. Kid’s Gym includes a 40 foot
climbing wall, Super Bouncer, 8 foot basketball goals, 8 pieces of
KidzPower Strength Training Equipment, Sportwall. and the Plasma Cars.
YMCA Youth Ministry
Thanks to
the generosity of the Gregory Family the YMCA is pleased to have a Youth
Ministry. The Youth Ministry provides pastoral care to staff, members, and
guests in times of crisis or illness; ministering to staff and members in
times of personal tragedy; providing staff and members with parenting help
as requested; being a representative of the Divine in everyday working
situations; providing a pastoral presence (helping to keep the
“C” in YMCA), being a “listening ear” for staff and
members, offering counseling support on an as requested basis; being an
on-site resource for staff in the areas of nursery, childcare, after school
care and working with teenagers. For
more information contact John Mack at the YMCA
at 423-968-3133.
