Seniors

Today, older adults are more health conscious than ever before. That is why the YMCA offers water exercise, variety of land-based exercise classes, volunteer opportunities, and social events. Our senior programs are designed for men and women in their 50s and older to promote fitness and well-being while fostering friendships and camaraderie. Our volunteer opportunities and social events help build lasting relationships and community ties that last a lifetime.

Benefits of Starting an Active Lifestyle Today

Some people may wonder what the difference is between physical activity and exercise. Physical activities are activities that get your body moving such as gardening, walking the dog and taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Exercise is a form of physical activity that is specifically planned, structured, and repetitive such as weight training, stretching techniques, or an aerobics class. Including both in your life will provide you with health benefits that can help you feel better and enjoy life more as you age.

  • Exercise reduces risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and some cancers.
  • Physical activity helps reduce pain. Keep moving!
  • Exercise helps increase muscular strength, flexibility and balance.
  • Physically activity and exercise help to manage stress and improve your mood.
  • Physical Activity + Exercise = Better quality of life!
