Why is everybody so exhausted around the holidays?

Well, this may seem obvious but probably because we’re stressing and not allowing our bodies to get enough relaxation and sleep.

Sleep and exercise are a kind of fuel for our bodies.  They help us relieve some stress of the season.  When we don’t get enough sleep and exercise our bodies will look for energy in other forms such as caffeine or sugar.  That will only be temporary and unsustainable energy.  Plus, you’ll probably have a crash soon too!

I recommend powering down all electronics an hour before you’re ready to go to bed.  This eliminates blue lights and allows your body to produce enough melatonin to help you sleep the entire night.  Plus, this extra hour gives you time to relax, wind down, and prepare your body and mind for sleep.  You can read a book (not on an electronic device), take a hot bath or shower, do some stretching, whatever will relax you.

And exercise actually boosts our happiness hormones to help us feel less stressed!  Choose movement that you like and feels good for your body.  If you don’t like to run, no worries!  Find something you do like!  I do recommend making sure you do any strenuous exercise at least 3-4 hours before bedtime.
